Worship Service Details
We meet at 10:30 on Sunday morning. We have a nursery for infants and toddlers and a separate room for preschool through kindergarten. First graders through high school attend the first 15-20 minutes of the service and then are dismissed to their regular classroom.
Style of Worship:
All are welcome. First Congregational Church offers a traditional worship service with a strong musical element that blends traditional hymns, classical works and contemporary pieces to complement the experience.
Communion is served on at least four Sundays during the year and during the evening service on Maundy Thursday. In the communion service we partake of the bread individually to indicate our individual responsibility in our faith; we partake of the cup as a group to indicate our corporate responsibilities. We practice “open communion,” which means that you do not have to be a member of the church to join us at the table.
New Member Class:
We usually offer a New Member class in the spring and the fall. If you are interested in joining one of these classes, please speak to our minister or call the office at 248.288.4220.
Baptisms are integrated into our Sunday worship service. We baptize infants through adults in a service that welcomes the child (adult) “joyfully and reverently as a member of our family- the family of God.”
There are slightly different versions of the Lord’s Prayer that believers pray. This is the Lord’s Prayer we recite in our service:
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”
